The Contenders

The Contenders Cellarmaker Brewing Company is one of the most cellar-focused craft breweries in San Francisco, if not the country, and accordingly named. From their geography-defying take on hazy IPAs and pales to an unwavering focus on freshness, they’ve built a reputation as a Bay Area institution in less than three years. By Emily Hutto MEET YOUR MAKERS— Tim Sciascia, Connor Casey, and Kelly Caveney. This trio founded Cellarmaker Brewing Company in San Francisco’s SoMa district in 2013. Their business is built around the idea that great beer isn’t just made on brew day; it’s developed over time during fermentation and aging. “The growing mantra around here is that  beer is truly formed in the cellar over days, weeks, months, and years with less importance being placed on the actual brew day,” says Tim Sciascia. “‘Cellarmaker’ is a play off that idea.” Sciascia graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in his hometown Boston with a degree in classical sa...

The power of “e” is unstoppable, electrifying

The power of “e” is unstoppable, electrifying everything it touches from email to e-commerce, e-cards to e-skin.Wait! What? Yes, you read it right. Even the skin is now going digital, turning itself into a screen so you don’t have to go around carrying heavy devices. E-skin is actually not new. Similar technologies like the smart patches and self-healing electronic skins have been developed in the past, but this e-skin designed by Takao Someya of the University of Tokyo is the thinnest one yet at 3 micrometers thin. This e-skin turns the wearer’s skin—ideally the back of the hand—into a digital display. Much like a cellophane wrap, it is flexible enough not to break even when flexed or stretched. Thanks to the embedded minuscule LED lights, this e-skin uses less power and can last for days. Right now, the flexible sheet uses a sevensegment LED to display a single character. Someya and his team are working on a display that can show more information. Someya claims the e-skin...

InvIsIble traIn to hIt Japan tracks

Invisible train to hit Japan tracks perhaps this is how Wonder Woman’s invisible jet would have been designed. Award-winning architect Kazuyo Sejima has been commissioned by Japan’s Seibu group to design an “invisible” train, one that is meant to seamlessly blend in with its surroundings. This is to celebrate Seibu Railway’s 100th anniversary. Traveling into Tokyo at 200 miles per hour, the Red Arrow train is designed with mirrored surfaces that reflect its environment but looks “soft,” so it can blend into the landscape. While this project is still in the concept stage, around seven of these trains may already be running by 2018. This is Sejima’s first train design project, but what got her recruited into it was her proficiency and vision in designing similar reflective buildings, whose style has been described as fluid, transparent, and intertwined with nature. Her unique designs have also been touted as “architecture  that is simultaneously delicate and powerful, preci...

Right smack in the center of action

Right smack in the center of action   Front, back, left, right, above, below. Thanks to new tech and algorithms, we’re finally seeing the whole picture—in full spherical, 360-degree view. I’m talking, of course, about 360-degree content. Video, in particular. In March last year, YouTube announced it was supporting uploads of 360 videos onto the site. Later in the year, it was Facebook’s turn to jump in on the craze. With support for 360 content, the social networking site enables users to choose the angle from which to watch videos. Oh, the wonders of tech! With traditional video, we are told the story in a linear way. The content creator chooses what to show and tell us. With 360, however, the dynamics are changing. We are right in the center of the action and we can choose which story line to follow, and what scenes we want to see from our vantage point. We can“move” around and explore. Immersive? You bet. What’s great about 360 videos is that you don’...

5 Ways To Make Money With One Article

5 Ways To Make Money With One Article Would you like to know a winning formula on how to make money on the Web from writing articles? In fact, just that one part of my business generates enough income to fully support myself comfortably. Just about anyone in any profession or business can copy this formula. I write articles for executive coaches and business consultants. They use different versions of my articles in their own newsletters, with their own names in the byline. When they purchase an article, they get reprint rights, but not exclusivity. But since they are in all parts of the country, and the world, they don't bump into others using the same article. They are also free to change the article. This formula can be used in any industry. Let's say you are a veterinarian. You know a lot about pets, and about your vet clinic clients. ...

3 Ultimate Japanese Automakers

Japan has been producing automobiles for almost as long as America, to the surprise of some. As the American automobile industry has changed, so has Japan’s. To this day, however, Japan still has the highest concentration of automakers of any country on earth: nine to be exact. Three, however, are real standouts producing not only high quality vehicles but reaching well beyond Japan to all corners of the planet. Let’s take a look at the top three and how they are impacting the North American market. Toyota – As the largest of all Japanese automakers, Toyota ranks only second to General Motors in global production. Toyota vehicles were first introduced to the North American market in the 1960s and were, at the time, widely panned by critics as being too small and inferior in quality. By the late 1970s, Toyota quality levels began to exceed the industry standard. Today, some consider Toyota the benchmark by which all car lines are judged; the company’s Lexus line of lux...

Let’s talk about motivation psychology

Let’s talk about motivation psychology   You cannot change The direction of the wind,  but you can adjust the sails   The Chinese have a saying that one cannot see the wind, only the movement of the leaves. Through the movement of the leaves, one may know that which is invisible. Aristotle proclaimed that all things are moved by something, but there must have been something to start all movement. The wind did not decide to move the leaves, but motion took place. We can choose to walk, and stop walking – unlike the movement of the elements. So does that mean we decide to allow ill health to enter the body and we therefore can change the direction of the outcome of disease? Science defines the type of leaf, the speed and direction of its movement, but does it give enough consideration to the origin of the wind? Does allopathic medicine give enough consideration to the origin of ill health? Does motivation psychology illness even really exist? Like reality and ti...
